Why become a Christian?
What’s it all about?
Surrendering your heart to Christ does not exempt you from the struggles and sorrows of this life but it does give us eternal life and divine resources to navigate through life’s challenges on this side of heaven. If you believe with all your heart that God exists, that His word, The Bible is true, and that Jesus Christ is who He says He is: “I am the way the truth and the life”, John 14:6 then this is your reason to choose Him, choose life!
6 Reasons why becoming a Christian is a good idea…
You will know a love like you have never known:
There is no greater demonstration of devotion, no greater sacrifice of love than to lay down your life for another. John 10:11 says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep”. John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends”. The faith of a Christian is built on this kind of love. Jesus gave His life for us. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while were still sinners, Christ died for us”. Once we’ve experienced Christ’s radical, unconditional love, nothing can separate us from it. Just a we freely receive Christ’s love, as His followers, we learn to spread this love to others. Being a follower of Jesus allows us to experience love in its purest form.
You will know happiness and lasting peace:
The freedom we experience in Christ gives birth to lasting joy and peace. 1 Peter 1:8-9 says, “Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith – the salvation of your souls”. When we experience God’ s love and forgiveness, Christ becomes the source of our joy. Even in the midst of great trials, this joy will emerge from deep within our spirit and leave us with a sense of peace. That’s what the Bible means when it says in Philippians 4:7 “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.
You will know freedom:
Similar to knowing God’s love, absolutely nothing compares to the freedom a person experiences when released from the heaviness, guilt and shame caused by sin. Romans 8:2 says, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death”. The moment someone decides to become a follower of Jesus is a powerful moment. It is at that moment of salvation that our sins are forgiven or ‘washed away’. As we read God’s Word and allow His Holy Spirit to work in our hearts, we are increasingly set free from sin’s power. Not only do we experience freedom through forgiveness of sin, and freedom from sin’s power over us we also begin to learn how to forgive others. God’s word says in Colossians 3:13, “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do”. As we let go of anger, bitterness and resentment, the chains that held us captive are broken through our own acts of forgiveness. The Bible says in John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed”.
You will know God in a personal way:
God sent Jesus, His only Son, so that we could have a relationship with Him. 1 John 4:9 says, “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that god has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him”. God wants us to connect with Him on a relational level, much like you would with a close friend. He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him. He wants to have a constant presence in our lives so He can comfort, strengthen, speak and teach us how to live. He speaks to us through His word, He leads us by His Holy Spirit and He wants to be our closest friend.
You will discover your life’s purpose:
You were created by God for a unique purpose. Everything about you is unique. No two people have the same DNA. That’s what the Bible means in Ephesians 2:10 when it says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before hand that we should walk in them”. As we are changed by His word, we begin to realise the potential we have in us and begin to exercise and develop the gifts God has given us. When we discover Who’s we are then our fullest potential and true spiritual fulfillment will come as we walk in the purposes and plans God not only designed for us but designed us for!
You will spend an eternity with God:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has put eternity in their hearts”. This is one of the reasons we experience an inner longing, or emptiness, or spend our lives searching for something, until our spirits are made alive in Christ. Then as God’s children we receive eternal life as a gift. Romans 6:23 says, ” For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Eternity with God will far exceed any earthly expectation we can begin to imagine about heaven. That’s what the Bible means when it says in 1 Corithians 2:9, “Eye has not seen, nor ear hear, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which god has prepared for those who love Him”.
This is good news!
Do you understand this good news? Do you believe Jesus was the Son of God and that He gave His life for you? Do you want to repent of your sin and live a life surrendered to Him? Would you like to become a son or daughter of the most High God? If your answer is yes then please respond in the following prayer:
“I believe that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life and so Lord I come to you and I repent of my sin, I have lived my life my way and so today I ask forgiveness and trust you now to be my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for dying in my place so that I can have life and life in all it’s fullness. I give you my life, surrender it to you and ask you to be Lord. Help me to live for you by the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray all these things in Jesus name. Amen”
