DAY 21
Psalm 37:1-6
We live in a society that is always in a hurry. Everything needs to be done instantly, and so we rush to meet our constant deadlines and sadly our workmanship suffers. God, on the other hand, is never flustered.  He is always on time and I think He would agree with the old saying “if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”
Here is our challenge… Do we trust Him enough to be patient?
We sing “Good good Father”, yet in reality we look around us at everyone else, even at ‘evildoers’, and think God is holding out on us, which will lead us to taking matters into our own hands.  We end up rushing around and cutting corners, kidding ourselves, and worse, copying the patterns of the world while thinking it will produce the results of heaven.
So today let’s focus in on v3 as we seek to set ourselves up for the year ahead.
“Trust in the Lord.”  What great advice for any time of the year, but especially as we look forward into 2018. The mistakes and failures of the past, the hopes and dreams of the future, commit them to God. Consciously take a moment to reflect on the goodness and faithfulness of God and to reaffirm your trust in Him.
“Do good.” As we trust in the goodness of God, we are called to show it to the people around us. Paul said “let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Gal 6:10).  This is something we need to be pro-active about, so keep your eyes peeled today for the opportunities.
“Dwell in the land” reminds us that we need patience and perseverance. To “dwell” requires commitment and determination. We are prone to think the grass is greener, and the world we live in is constantly drawn to ‘the next big thing’. But God calls us to hold on  – for His timing and positioning is perfect.
“Befriend faithfulness.” There are few qualities as rare and as precious as faithfulness, and it is a quality that we need to work on. Just as any friendship takes time and effort to develop, so we must invest in our relationship with faithfulness. Solomon said in Proverbs 14:22, “Those who devise good meet steadfast love and faithfulness”. As you seek to do good, you will be presented with the opportunity to meet faithfulness, and the advice is simple, befriend her. Let’s give thanks for the unwavering faithfulness of God and for the people who have been there for us when we needed them the most.
Don’t compete with or compare yourself to the world, its pleasures will soon fade, but trust God and delight in His ways, and you will reap the benefits in due season.  Remember, the grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.
