DAY 29
Psalm 27:5-8
HIDE AND SEEK

Have you ever faced times of trouble and didn’t know how to handle it? In this Psalm, David confidently tells us that God will HIDE, LIFT and HEAR us, as we SEEK Him.

‘God will conceal me in His shelter in the day of trouble, He will HIDE me under the cover of His tent.’ The tent he refers to is the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle and Temple. The Holy of Holies was God’s throne and no one could be touched in that place. The High Priest could only visit once a year but David says that for us, dwelling and living consciously in His Presence is the safest place in the world. There is such a contrast in this verse – lifted from the mud of despair and trouble, to being set on a rock!

What sort of trouble are you facing? Fear, doubt, discouragement? The grip of fear can debilitate your heart, mind and will. Christians have a strength greater than any fear we face. So, whatever battle you may be fighting or enemy you may be facing, rest confidently in God’s protection and say aloud – GOD WILL HIDE ME! ‘He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will remain stable and fixed under His shadow and His power no foe can withstand.’ (Psalm 91:1) Knowing this will take your fear away!

‘God will LIFT my head high above my enemies’ and when He does lift your head you can offer sacrifices of praise. Praise releases the enemy’s grip. Like David did, turn your focus towards the Lord and away from your circumstances and sing, ‘God I look to you, you’re where my help comes from’. Then you will be able to hold your head high in victory.

‘HEAR me when I call.’ Don’t let the enemies silence you today. Cry aloud to God who hears and who answers. You can call to Him at any time but it is short-sighted to call only when you are in trouble. Troubles can be often avoided or handled more easily by seeking God’s help and direction beforehand.

‘You say SEEK My face…Your face (presence) I will SEEK.’ Seeking means to inquire and require God as your vital need. David clearly knows that his need could and would be met by God. That’s why he says, the one thing I desire most is that my life is marked by Your Presence. Does God meet your need? It takes both your heart and will to be actively seeking God’s presence.

As you pray, let Him HIDE you, LIFT you, HEAR you and as you SEEK Him as your vital need, your mouth will be filled with sacrifices (words) of praise. Ask Him to make His mark on your life today.
