Village of the Year

Ahoghill wins Calor Village of the Year Award

Ahoghill has seen some major changes over he past ten years and we know and can see God's hand in that transformation. The Wash Basin were thrilled to be part of the work that has been done turning our little village around and making it such a lovely place to live and work.
Ahoghill has been named Calor Village of the Year 2009-2010 at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Bangor, and our very own Kelli McCaw was there to pick up the award.

The County Antrim village beat off stiff competition from nine other villages across Northern Ireland, including the highly commended Cushedun, to win the coveted title and a cash prize of £5,000. They also won the 'environment' category and an additional £1,000 in prize money.

Congratulating the title winner, Steve Cooke, Chief Executive of Calor Gas, said: "Ahoghill is a thriving, caring and innovative rural community that overwhelmed the judges with its outstanding effort, consistency and achievement in all categories of the competition.

"Ahoghill demonstrated an exceptional level of community involvement, along with a real sense of pride which gave judges a genuine appreciation for what it's like to live there.

"They were impressed with the on-going environmental initiatives used to keep the village attractive, friendly and welcoming, as well as the range of activities and facilities on offer and the key role that businesses play in village life."

A big well done to Ahoghill! We are believing God for greater things to come!

2007 saw the beginning of Ahoghill's success in the Calor Village of the Year Competition. Pictured above, former Wash Basin Co-Ordinator, Karen Kernohan picked up the 'Older People' award on behalf of Ahoghill Village. One of our longest running ministries, 'Vineyard' opens the door to our treasured senior citizens providing a well loved day out with a three course meal, worship, a short talk, crafts and outings. The Vineyard team, led by Richard Fleck, also visit the housebound and those in nursing and residential homes, taking with them meals and some much needed company and laughter!
